It is also notable for an impressive number of high-profile guest stars in its time. We decided to look back on the iconic series and pick our the most memorable cameos. Take a look at our top ten list of the most notable guest stars on Friends.
George Clooney and Noah Wyle – “The One with Two Parts” (Season 1, Episodes 16 & 17)
The two men were real heartthrobs in the 1990s. They were stars in ER where they played doctors. Clooney and Wyle appear together on Friends as Dr. Michael Mitchell and Dr. Jeffrey Rosen, the doctors who treat Rachel for her sprained ankle. They also ask the girls out on dates, but the possible romance did not work out. Check it out below.
Julia Roberts and Brooke Shields – “The One After the Superbowl” (Season 2, Episodes 12 & 13)
Episode aired just after the Super Bowl brought us two notable guests – Julia Roberts and Brooke Shields. Roberts plays Susie Moss, Chandler’s old schoolmate who, thanks to Chandler, became known as ‘Susie Underpants’ for most of her childhood. She suddenly seems to be totally charmed by Chandler. He did not know what is going to happen.
Brooke Shields plays Erika Ford, Joey’s stalker. She thinks she’s dating his character from the soap opera Days of Our Lives, Dr. Drake Ramoray.
Ben Stiller – “The One with the Screamer” (Season 3, Episode 22)
Stiller plays the role of Tommy, which Rachel started dating shortly after breaking up with Ross. Both men have the opportunity to quickly get to know each other and you have to admit that Tommy does not make the best first impression. If you don’t remember, he screamed at the older couple who accidentally seated at Tommy and Ross’s seats in the theater.
Robin Williams and Billy Crystal – “The One with the Ultimate Fighting Champion” (Season 3, Episode 24)
There’s no real explanation for these two appearing on the show, but we are so glad they did. Their conversation – discussing Williams’ wife extra-marital activities – even catches the attention of the Friends crew. It’s definitely the best guest appearance.
Rebecca Romijn – “The One with the Dirty Girl” (Season 4, Episode 6)
It was Romijn’s first ever acting role. She played Cheryl, the titular Dirty Girl who dates Ross. She was funny and sexy, but very messy.
Hugh Laurie – “The One with Ross’s Wedding” (Season 4, Episodes 23 & 24)
Before his days on House M.D., Laurie played the man on the airplane who sits next to Rachel on her way to London to tell she loves Ross before he gets married. Laurie is totally not interested in the whole story, but eventually explodes and tells Rachel she is a horrible person. Great performance of a man who just a decade later, won the hearts of American audiences with such behavior.
Winona Ryder – “The One with Rachel’s Big Kiss” (Season 7, Episode 20)
One day, Rachel meets a former sorority sister, Melissa Warburton (played by Winona Ryder) who Rachel claims she made out with in college. When Phoebe doesn’t believe her, Rachel goes to dinner with Melissa and brings Phoebe along, but Melissa denied the kiss ever occurred. Finally, Melissa admits the truth and grabs Rachel for a long-awaited kiss.
Brad Pitt – “The One with The Rumor” (Season 8, Episode 9)
Jennifer Aniston’s then-husband Brad Pitt guest starred on Friends as Will Colbert. He was Rachel, Monica, and Ross’s classmate in high school. Ross and Will used to hate Rachel back in high school. They started a club and spread a rumor about her.
Danny DeVito – “The One Where the Stripper Cries” (Season 10, Episode 11)
Danny DeVito plays a 50-year-old stripper who is crying because his career had not gone as he wanted. What starts as an unpleasant experience on the eyes becomes a heartwarming conversation and a dance that Phoebe seems to think is pretty hot.
Jim Rash – “The Last One” (Season 10, Episodes 17 & 18)
The Academy Award-winning Community star made an appearance in the series finale, playing the nervous male passenger on the plane next to Rachel. It was a very short cameo appearance, but frighting look and a few sentences he spoke were very memorable.
