The Enormous Spreadsheet that Runs the World’s Mail

So your package’s in Leicester and must bring it to Nanjing. But along the way how do you know who to pay? How does it know where to go?

The Universal Postal Union , established by the Treaty of Bern of 1874, is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) that coordinates postal policies among member nations, in addition to the worldwide postal system. The agency’s whole purpose is to make sure that mail works everywhere. No matter where a letter originates, it has to work in a way that any postal service worldwide can understand where its going and every postal service in the world has to get paid for the work they do.

YouTube channel Half as Interesting explains in the video the enormous spreadsheet that runs the world’s mail. Watch it below.
