But you probably don’t know that hedonist lifestyle wasn’t a completely mystery to Leonardo DiCaprio, who played the main role in the film. The VICE documentary explores Dana Giacchetto, a former investment banker who probably was a source of inspiration for the actor.
Giacchetto’s Cassandra Group was a financial success in the ’90s. He worked with name brand clients like Sub Pop, Smashing Pumpkins, Alanis Morissette, Phish, Victoria Williams, Q-Tip, and R.E.M. He also hanged out with celebrities and supermodels like Tobey Maguire, Winona Ryder, Harmony Korine and a star of Titanic, Leonardo DiCaprio. DiCaprio very quickly befriended with Giacchetto and spent a lot of time with him. They even owned matching cockatoos named Angel and Caesar and hosted legendary, excessive parties at Giacchetto’s penthouse loft on Broadway and Cortlandt in Manhattan.
